Dad's Day

Just looking at ideas for Father's day when I came across some photos of Brian and Alexis at the Library.

Combined with a some digi work I'd just done - and tada! A quick little page.

It's probably not the photo I'll keep in this page, or I might just think on the page today and alter it, leaving the photo... In any case - here it is :)

...and one of Brian out hiking...

...and one of him from Iraq

Got to love this guy - been married for almost 25 years and we're still going strong.

He really is one great husband and dad

p.s. These digi elements are from the Veronica Spriggs "In His World" Premier June kit - I LOVE all these kits from Linda Sattgast / http://scrappersguide.com/

Photos from my Bri!

I got photos from my far away love!

Take a look at this hunk - yep, he's mine, hands off ladies :)

His 'house':

I can almost feel the heat coming out of this photo (what, it's like 120 degrees or so there !??!!)

It's not going to be fun without him, waiting here at home, having major surgery without him. But he has it worse than me for sure.

Now I just have to get photos from my youngest boy over in Kuwait.

I do love my boys in uniform '-)

Saying Goodbye...

So far, so good. It's not been so long that I can't pretend that my husband isn't just off on a business trip.

I figure that in a few months my internal clock will start to wonder about his long absence, "...isn't he supposed to be home yet??"

Poor Justin, my baby boy. I really need to stop thinking of him that way, he is a grown married man now. It's just that for so many many years he was my youngest, my baby. It's hard to change that image. Particularly when he still has those puppy dog eyes of his.

Photobucket

We've said our goodbyes to him as well. I just feel so heartsick when I think of how newly married he and Amber are, how I would have felt if my husband had to leave me when I was that young.

Anyway, at least I am living close to family and I do have another grown boy that will be moving in, along with his wife, to take care of all the 'man stuff' that needs doing. Jason & Thai are wonderfully supportive, responsible and capable. It will be nice to have the time with them this year.

I have to share this great photo that Brian took of himself and his brother the day before he left. They actually look a lot alike here, not that the hats and sunglasses aren't adding to the illusion ;)

It was kind of interesting on the day of the Farewell. Brian was asked by the local news channel (Fox 13) for an interview. I followed him over, holding Lex, to stand by and watch. But they didn't let me just watch, they had me stand next to him and then they interviewed me too. What's funny is that I was SO NOT wanting to be on TV.

See, it was at the end of the farewell. A female soldier had just performed an extremely moving hula to the song 'Proud to be an American' (no, not in her uniform, but in a Hawaiian dress) and, although I am NOT the type that is moved to tears, I was then. The combination of the song, the Hawaiian influence - Hawaii was our first Active Duty station, back when the boys were young and possibly - just maybe ;) - I was feeling emotional about my husband leaving for war.

Anyway, I had NO makeup left, my voice was all catchy and tight from the emotion and they wanted to me to interview?!

Then, of all things, the ONLY interview they showed was mine! None of my husbands, none of the other soldiers and their families, just mine.

You know, it's weird when you hear your voice in a recording, I had no idea I sounded like that. I didn't recognize my voice at all. But, at least I didn't have any black streaks on my face from mascara and the lighting was favorable. Does anyone know how to pull a recording from a DVR/TIVO recording?

Well, now that all the Sctuff is over with, I might have some good 'girls only' time to get creative. I tell ya, the ideas are stacking up in my brain faster than I can get to them! Keep an eye out, I expect to be on the mojo train soon!

Yep, she was sick alright...

Tonsilitis, Bronchitis, a touch of Pneumonia and even though the strep test came back negative the Dr. didn't seem to trust that he got a good swab.

So, yep, now she is on major antibiotics and is already doing much better - whew.

On the other hand...

I'VE GOT MY HANDS IN THE NOVEMBER KIT!!!

3 Layouts just awaiting final touches, several card ideas, I'm still debating if I want to do a card or a gift item for the holidays :)

...keep watching, I'll look at posting a few sketch previews this weekend.

Oh, and take a look at this photo of my awesome DH - who is back in town after a work trip. Can you tell I missed him?

Take a look. Is this work??? I think he had a bit of fun too. He did get to spend some hiking time with his brother that lives in the Southern most reaches of Utah

Rock Walls, Dirt Devils and Mud

It's going to be so WONDERFUL when we finally get our yard in!

No more 'work until dark and beyond' days.
No more swirling, blinding dirt devils
No more sticky mud

...although I believe the bugs will appear in even thicker droves once there is water around.

Here Brian is, out there, working on the rock wall, after he has already put in a full day of work. Oh, and can you believe it... all these rocks are from our yard! We did not have to import a single one. I swear, our yard is a veneer of dirt over millions of rock.

I tried to take more photos, but the dust (which you can't really see until the flash goes off) is horrendous for getting in your face and I really don't want to ruin my camera with all that. The backyard is seriously 6" of baby-powder fine dust from the backhoe work and the dryness of summer. Until, that is, it rains! Then you can't step out there for the sticky-clay-like adhesion.

Like I said, it will be so nice when it's done!

Originally the contractor was required to have the lawn in before we were moved in. But, being the imperfect world that it is, it's now 2 months later and we are finally getting lawn. Maybe, by Tuesday, I can have pictures of green instead of brown!

Oh, and YES, if you were wondering, that rain photo just below this post, there is less than half an hour difference in the time between these photos! The rain was first too. No, the rain did not last long at all ;(

First 5K Run!

What a fun night!

Lexy just finished her FIRST 5K run - Wahoo!

Just look at them here, matching Army PT uniforms and all.

(sorry for the reflective glare! Holy cow! Those PT uniforms have got some BLING there! LOL!

I made it just in time for the prize drawings, so no good starting line images from me, nor any en-route photos. But Dad did get some, I just have to get them from his camera. The run was a bit much for Lex, but she did it - and she won 5$ at Bajio's Restaurant to boot! Way to go Lexy!
