Upcycling Paperback Books

It's no secret that I work at the Orem Public Library.
Nor is it unheard of to learn that I am a bit of a crafter.
Neither is a real stretch to find out that I'm a dedicated life-long learner.

What does it all mean?

At long last, it's Project Time

You see, recently, as part of my quest to learn and master all that I can, I have been planning and creating with my library co-workers. And yes, I would absolutely love to have a store in the library, a store like you've probably not seen before, a store that (among it's many myriad things) would sell items like these

Here is how to do it, step by (hopefully easy to understand) step:

p.s. Using Double-sided tape can be difficult. Ditto with trying various crafting tape runners. I use my Framer's Tape Gun and it works very well.
And in the end, you get a little something like this:

p.s. Use old colored edges for a hint of color!

Favorite Friday Find

I love my new bag!

With the newspaper all sewn up inside clear plastic, I have a sturdy upcycled/recycled carry-all that works great for transporting my miscellaneous bits and baubles to and from work.

Sweet!

Wish I could claim this as one of mine, but alas, I only found it--in the clearance section, no less--whoo hoo!

Rule #1

Amy's Scrapbooking Rules

- wait a minute, did I just say RULES??? In the creative arena are there are supposed to be rules???

Rule #1 - There are no rules

Example:

Many people think that it's a rule that you HAVE to scrap Lignin and Acid free.

Now HOW can anyone think that a scrapbook - a major portion of which is PAPER - can possibly be saved for ever and ever and ever?

If you save your negatives, if you archive your digital files, if you do all you can to safely keep all the original photos, then why does it matter if you have to reprint the photo sometime in the future?

And, lastly, just think how LIMITING it is to eliminate all the found items that come into your life, just because they might be acidic or heaven forbid, have lignin? Do you even remember what lignin is? I've forgotten.

Let's put it this way... If I worried about acid & lignin I would have never created this:

How about you? Is there anything you would not have created? Leave me a post - or, just so we can all see it, upload on IL2C's gallery :)

Old Family Photos!

Okay, recovered from my morose mood!

I collaged a bunch of old family photographs for use as Vintage Elements!

I always see copies of antique photos being used for collages, ATC's and other projects (think Tim Holtz-style). Well, I have a treasure trove that I was able to pick from and so I created this printable file for anyone wanting to use a bit of ephemera in their projects!

Maybe this will actually inspire me to make some heritage scrapbook pages? I hope so.

Have fun!

p.s. See if you can spot me in amongst all those photos - yes, I'm there - I TOLD you I was old ;) And, no, I did not have to artificially age the photograph! LOL!
